くしゃみとクスクェー

　この度は、沖縄の少し面白い民話をお話したいと思います。

　沖縄には、くしゃみをするときにおまじないがあることをご存知ですか？
　実は沖縄では、くしゃみに関する古い言い伝えがあるそうなんです。
　それは、「クスクェー」という言い伝えです。
　誰でもするくしゃみだけに、とても面白いお話ですよ。

『由来』
　「クスクェー」の由来の話となると、多くのお話があるのですがより分かりやすい話を紹介したいと思います。

　ある日、悪霊たちが集まってこそこそ話をしていました。
　悪霊A「近くの村に子供がうまれたんだって。」
　悪霊B「どうにかして魂を抜き取れないかなぁ。」
　悪霊A「そうだ！子供がくしゃみをした隙に、頂きに行こう」
　悪霊B「それはいい案だね。そうしよう」
　悪霊A「だけど気を付けて行かないといけないね。」
悪霊B「そう気を付けて行かないと。わしらはあの言葉に弱いんだ。」
悪霊A「あの『クスクェー』という忌々しいあのおまじないだよね。」
悪霊B「わしらが魂を抜くことができなくなってしまうあのおまじない。」
悪霊A「誰にも知られないようにしなければ。」
悪霊B「気を付けよう。」
悪霊A「気を付けよう。」
　
　この悪霊たちのやり取りを、たまたま近くで聞いていた村人がいました。
　その村人は、村に戻って村人が村中の人たちに伝えて回ったので、子供たちは悪霊たちに魂を抜き取られず無事に過ごすことができましたとさ。
　
　・・・というお話です。
　かなり都合の良い話のような気がしますが、沖縄では今でも子供がくしゃみをすると大人が「クスクェー」と言って、おまじないをかけているそうです。
　でも近年では、時代の流れで沖縄でもあまり聞かなくなったそうですが、沖縄のおじいさんやおばあさんはその言い伝えにならって「クスクェー」と言っているそうですよ。
　なんだか目の前でそのやり取りを聞くと、なごみそうな感じがするのでぜひ沖縄の子供たちには受け継いでもらいたいものですね。

　私は全然知りませんでしたが、くしゃみはかなり昔から縁起が悪いとされているそうで、「クスクェー」のお話と同じようにくしゃみをすると悪霊が入り込むとされ、それを防ぐためにさまざまなおまじないが世界各地にあるんだそうですよ。
