沖縄には、さまざまな面白い民話があるのはご存知でしょうか。
民話の数だけでもかなりの数が存在しています。
なぜそんなにあるのかは謎ですが、調べてみると面白い話も出てくるので楽しいですよ。
そして、この度はそんな面白い沖縄の民話のなかでも私的に特に気に入っている「亀の恩返し」というお話を紹介したいと思います。
「亀の恩返し」といえば、「浦島太郎」が有名ですが、それとはまた別のお話で沖縄に昔から伝わっている「亀の恩返し」のお話です。
昔々のお話です。
もうすぐ唐の国に旅に行くことになっている役人が用事があって沖縄本島にある糸満 に行きました。
すると、港では大きなカメが陸に上がっていて、漁師さんたちがその大きなカメを殺そうとしていました。
糸満を訪れた役人は、「ウミガメは竜宮の使いである」という話を聞いたことがあるのを思い出していると、殺されそうになっている大きなカメは、役人に助けを求めるように役人を見て涙を流しました。
役人は、思わず「ちょっと待ってくれ。」と漁師さんたちに声をかけました。
役人は「そのカメを譲ってくれないか。」と漁師さんたちに交渉し、たくさんのお金を支払って大きなカメを漁師さんたちから買いました。
そして、役人はその大きなカメを海に連れて行き、逃がす際に自分の唐の国への旅が無事に終わるように願いを込めて逃がしてやりました。
その後、その役人は唐の国へ船で向かいました。
しかし、航海の途中で大きな嵐に巻き込まれてしまい、船が壊れて役人は海へ投げ出されてしまいました。
役人は、もう助からないだろうと海をさまよっているうちに、大きな岩のようなものが役人を水の上へ押し上げてくれました。
その大きな岩は、なんとあの助けたカメでした。
そして、役人はそのカメの背中に乗って無事に陸地までたどり着くことができました。
役人は、カメのおかげで助かることができ、唐の国への旅も無事に終わらせることができたのでした。
なかなかストーリー性があっていい話ですよね。
沖縄では、今でも「亀の恩返し」のお話は子供たちに伝えられているそうですよ。
