空気のきれいな宮古島では、星がとってもきれい。沖縄旅行で宮古島に泊まりできれいな天の川に感動した人も多いのでは？ こちらは 星空を微速度撮影した動画です。

さて宮古島には星にまつわるお話が語り継がれていますよ。どちらも天女の伝説です。 「天女のはなし」 むかし、天に6人の星の姉妹が住んでいました。ある日、姉妹は羽衣を着て地上に降り、 湖を見つけると、羽衣を脱いで水遊びをしていました。そこに通りかかった湖の主のミカルスは、木にかけてあった美しい羽衣を1枚持ち帰ってしまいます。

湖では1番上の姉 オカアニが一人飛べずに泣いていました。ミカルスは何食わぬ顔で近づき「どうしたの」と聞くと、オカアニは「水浴びをしている間に、羽衣が無くなってしまい帰れなくない」と言います。

　オカアニは羽衣が見つかるまで、ミカルスの家で暮らすことになりました。それから何年か経って、二人は夫婦になっていました。ウミシイとウミナイという2人の男の子も産まれました。ある日屋根裏のかごの中に羽衣を見つけたオカアニは、息子2人を脇にかかえ飛ぼうとしたが、うまく飛べません。仕方なく１人で天に帰っていきました。天に戻ったものの子どものことが気がかりで、いつもひっそりと光っているということです。

「天の川の由来」むかし、銘苅里之子（めかるさとのしい）いう大将がいました。 里之子は、庭に 池を造って鯉を飼い、自分もその池で水浴びをしたりしていました。 ある朝、池を眺めていると、どこからか美しい娘が来て水浴びをしていました。

毎朝のように娘を見かけるようになりましたが、すぐにいなくなってしまいます。注意して見ていると、娘は、天から降りてくると、羽衣を池の傍樫の木の上に置いて水浴びをして、水浴びが終わると、天に飛び上がっていました。 　それを知った里之子は、娘が水浴びをしている間に羽衣を隠しました。

天に帰れず困っている娘に、里之子は見つかるまで自分の家で暮らすよう言いました。 里之子 は一緒に捜すふりをして、何日も引き止めているうちに、天女と夫婦になりました。

　姉と弟の二人の子供にも恵まれました。ある日、姉の方が弟の子守りをしながら、「泣くなよ、弟、大きくなったら、母ちゃんの羽衣を着て、飛んで行く」と歌っています。これを聞いた天女が羽衣はどこにあるのかと娘に聞くと、 羽衣が出てきました。 天に戻った天女は 、 縄をおろして、夫子を天に呼び寄せました。 天女の父親である天太(太陽)の神は、 冬瓜を植えるように里之子に言います。

言われたとおりにするとすぐに芽が生え、蔓が延びてきて里之子に巻きつきそうになりました。斧で蔓を切って戻ると、次は 冬瓜の実をを取ってくるように言われ、馬に積んで家に帰ってきました。次にの冬瓜を切りなさいと言いました。
　 里之子は、 冬瓜を横に倒して切ると、どっと汁が出てきて、それが天の川となり天女と里之子の間に流れました。それからは、この天の川で隔てられている里之子と天女とは、年に一日だけ、会うのが許されるようになったということです。
